High-Quality Criminal Justice Complex

HOK Designs the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center

Architecture studio HOK has completed the design of the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center. The building is defined by scalloped concrete paneling and extends with glass, with a focus on embodying the ideas of 'dignity, transparency, and efficiency.' The campus is in Detroit and is made up of various buildings taking up 1.1 million square feet of space, including an adult prison, criminal courthouse, and juvenile detention facility.

HOK shared more on the design, "The new campus brings together services previously held in an ageing criminal courthouse, an inefficient juvenile detention facility, and three outdated detention facilities located across metropolitan Detroit. By consolidating services, the project reduces the burden of commuting between detention centres and courthouses, helping to facilitate the public's right and access to a speedy trial."
