Waymo autonomous cars will undergo heavy rain testing in Florida. Florida was chosen as the location due to the upcoming hurricane season in the area. Waymo autonomous cars will be tested in this environment to see how the vehicles' sensors are able to perform in the extreme weather. The vehicles being tested will still have to be manually driven by human drivers who have undergone training.
Waymo will have both of its cars undergo testing in two Florida locations, in Naples and in Miami. The cars being tested include the Chrysler Pacificas and the Jaguar I-PAce models.
The company intends to determine if its autonomous driving system can operate in extreme rain, and aims to see how reliable the system could be under those conditions. These data points will provide the company with valuable information on its system.
