Volker Steger gives an amazing view of squashed insects in his book 'BUZZ: The Intimate Bond Between Humans and Insects.' The book features many amazing insect photos, but perhaps the most incredible captures are the photos taken from bugs that smashed against the hood of Steger's car.
Squashed bugs aren't usually much to look at, but that is because we are seeing them all wrong. Steger set up a plastic sheet on the hood of his car to collect his specimens, which he then viewed on an electron microscope. The resulting images are amazing to say the least, with Steger's description of the squashed bugs looking like "fallen angels" being dead on. You can see a small sample of Volker Steger's squashed bug photos here.
