This Vietnamese Housing Project Addresses an Urgent Issue

Vo Trong Nghia Architects designed the 'S House,' a prototype for an affordable Vietnamese housing project aimed at resolving the country's ongoing dilemma.

The dwelling was specifically designed to be as low maintenance and affordable as possible. The architects improved upon their original design proposition, which was based around a steel frame, modifying it to a precast concrete structure. This material replaced the original steel because the architects were confident that it would provide more and strength and support over the long-term.

The project is much needed in Mekong Delta, a region with an average income hovering below 60 dollars per month. Permanent, affordable homes are a crucial, dire need for these people, who are often forced to live in cheap, temporary housing.
