Meta unveiled an upcoming translation software that will have real-time translation through its 'Universal Speech Translator' feature. This software will be powered by an artificial intelligence (AI) that can learn and improve with constant use. The currently unnamed software will have a feature called 'No Language Left behind' which uses an AI to translate written sentences without a large sample size of language data.
The Universal Speech Translator feature is much more ambitious. Meta aims to achieve seamless, real-time translation with this feature without needing to write words down or record and playback audio files. If this feature works effectively, it could remove a variety of language barriers across regular interactions as well as in business proceedings. This feature is a continuation of Meta's original goal with Facebook to promote connectivity between people and foster a sense of a world community.
