Trapped In Light is an immersive lamp series that highlights the ill effects of light pollution. Designers Hao-Mei Wang and Pei-Tzu Ku bring this issue to the forefront of society through their series of lamps. The series allows visitors to understand how nocturnal creatures feel in light-polluted cities.
Positioned at eye level, the lamps require users to stand with their faces inside the lampshade. Inside the lampshade, a cityscape artwork is painted on its surface, illuminated by the lamp's bulb. When the bulb is switched off, the lamp begins glowing due to a coating of phosphorescent paint. This illustrates how nocturnal animals never experience pure darkness in highly populated urban areas, disrupting the natural environment.
