The Touchscreen Steering Wheel hopes to increase safety on the road by incorporating high-tech devices into vehicles in a more user-friendly manner. Instead of penalizing drivers distracted by their phones, GPS units, MP3 players and other devices, it builds the tech right into the car.

Conceived and developed by a group of researchers from the University of Stuttgart, University of Duisburg-Essen and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, the Touchscreen Steering Wheel incorporates a touchscreen right into the steering wheel so as to reduce the need for drivers to take their eyes off the road while looking for vehicle controls. With the ability to recognize 20 gestures, the Touchscreen Steering Wheel is easy to navigate as well.

The Touchscreen Steering Wheel debuted during the Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems.
