The Thermo Scientific InstaFlux is a new innovation from Thermo Fisher Scientific engineered to support food microbiology laboratories with pathogen and environmental testing.
The system comes at the right time to coincide with increasing demand for food testing solutions that are fast and efficient, which translates into a quicker turnaround to help maximize consistency. The system will allow labs to prepare media on demand at a sub-30-minute rate to simplify the process related to sample incubation. The system also reduces media prep labor by over 80% for more than 35% cost savings and more than 90% savings related to water and energy use.
Interim President of Microbiology Business Claribel Purcell spoke on the Thermo Scientific InstaFlux saying, "As food testing demands continue to grow, laboratories need solutions that help them do more with the resources they have. Thermo Scientific InstaFlux reflects our commitment to helping customers modernise enrichment workflows through a simpler, on-demand approach that supports productivity, traceability and long-term operational sustainability.”
What's Driving This Trend
- On-demand Lab Media
- Rapid media preparation platforms are reshaping food microbiology workflows by reducing incubation bottlenecks and enabling faster pathogen testing turnaround.
- Resource-efficient Testing
- Lower water, energy, and labor requirements in testing systems create room for sustainable laboratory operations with stronger cost-performance advantages.
- Automated Enrichment Workflows
- Streamlined enrichment processes are modernizing quality control environments through improved traceability, consistency, and productivity in high-volume labs.
Who This Affects Most
- Food Safety Testing
- Growing pathogen detection demands are expanding the market for faster, more efficient systems that support consistent regulatory and quality assurance outcomes.
- Laboratory Equipment
- Advanced microbiology instruments are creating competitive differentiation through automation, sustainability gains, and reduced operational complexity.
- Food Manufacturing
- More efficient environmental and pathogen testing capabilities are strengthening production oversight by shortening feedback loops across food processing facilities.
