The Martin Parr Foundation presents a 40th-anniversary exhibition of The Last Resort, one of Martin Parr’s most influential photographic series. Originally produced between 1983 and 1985, the body of work documents seaside life in New Brighton, Merseyside, capturing British leisure culture through saturated color and candid composition. The exhibition brings together all 40 images from the original series, marking both the anniversary of its first public showing and its initial publication. The photographs reflect Parr’s decisive move toward color photography at a time when black-and-white documentary still dominated the field.
In addition to the finished prints, the exhibition includes original contact sheets, supporting archival materials, and the medium-format camera used during the project. The presentation offers insight into Parr’s working process and the visual language that shaped his later career. The exhibition will be held at the Martin Parr Foundation gallery in Bristol and is scheduled to run from February through late May 2026.
