Expandable Plant Pots

The Helix is an Expandable Self-Watering Planter

The Helix was developed by Glasgow-based design studio POTR as an origami-inspired planter that expands with a plant's growth to reduce the need for repotting. The planter uses a Kresling-style folding structure that increases its capacity up to 2 liters while allowing roots to remain undisturbed. A self-watering system draws moisture from a base reservoir through a capillary wick, helping regulate soil hydration for up to two weeks. The planter is manufactured from recycled polypropylene with a recycled nylon wick and ships flat-packed to reduce transport volume.

The planter can be paired with modular accessories including the Sprout Plate for seed germination, the Sprig Plate for rooting cuttings and a height-adjustable Trellis for climbing plants. The faceted geometry allows multiple planters to be grouped into compact indoor growing arrangements for herbs and houseplants. The standalone planter and complete accessory bundle are available through Kickstarter, with global deliveries scheduled to begin in September 2026.
