As part of the promotions for The Emoji Movie, Sony Pictures Animation set out to break the record for the largest number of people dressed as emoji faces around the world—and succeeded.

In the UK, groups of people gathered at St. Thomas' Hospital in Westminster, including notable individuals like leading emoji expert and author of 'The Emoji Code' Vyvyan Evans, plus official characters from the movie like Gene, Hi-5, Poop Daddy, Pizza and Heart. Outside of the UK, there were other efforts made in Sao Paulo, Dublin, Moscow and Dubai to set the global record.

From fashion and electronics to food, emojis have been embraced as the of-the-moment universal language that makes for products and marketing that appeals to young demographics.
