Architecture studio Technique blends together a pair of flats that are connected to a traditional stone house in Scotland, resulting in The Den. The Den is a one-bedroom space that is in a black-metal 'jacket' design. It rests right at the hillside within the village of Tighnabruaich overlooking the narrow sea channel that is the Kyles of Bute. The process of opening up the dilapidated spaces unveils original stone walls and timbers that created a dynamic contrast.
Jamie Ross, the founder of the studio states that "A rich palette of materials which had aged over time was revealed, creating unique spatial qualities. The clients' ambition to retain this character and atmosphere formed a core part of the new design."
