'The Body Brigade' issue of 'Ebony Magazine' is making headlines for including four influential plus-size women of color on its cover. While the magazine has never shied away from discussing important issues, now it is shedding light on the issue of body image in the media by highlighting plus-size women who are excelling in their fields.
The Body Brigade issue of Ebony Magazine explores the topic of body image and fat acceptance by celebrating plus-size women of color. The idea behind the issue is to dispel the notion that body positivity is something reserved for white women. In order to send its message of empowerment, the March issue of Ebony Magazine features plus-size women of color who are highly successful in their chosen fields. More specifically, the magazine highlights fashion designer Gabi Gregg, actress Danielle Brooks and singers Jazmine Sullivan and Chrisette Michele. All four women are decked out in military-inspired outfits that celebrate their diverse body types.
The cover serves as an important reminder about the crucial role that women of color play in the body positive movement.
