Moat-Edge Family Homes

The Antriya House Unveils a Multi-Generational Layout Shaped Around Water

The Antriya House, designed by 23 Degrees Design Shift, is a multi-generational residence arranged along a long linear plot outside Hyderabad. The structure is bordered by a continuous moat that establishes privacy and gives the home a distinct perimeter while also helping moderate the local climate. Three parallel stone walls organise the internal layout, creating clear zones for communal activity and quieter private areas.

The deep overhangs and shaded verandas support natural ventilation and daylight control, allowing the house to remain comfortable in high heat without relying heavily on mechanical systems. The material palette uses local stone, reclaimed timber, and simple finishes that connect the building to its setting. The plan separates living, dining, and family areas from the bedrooms while still keeping sightlines strong across the central axis. Clerestory openings and controlled gaps between the stone walls bring in soft light and guide circulation through the house.

Outdoor walkways and gathering spaces create a steady transition between interior rooms and the surrounding landscape. The moat reinforces this connection by reflecting the architecture and framing views outward. The overall design supports three generations under one roof through clear spatial organisation, steady climate response, and a focus on durable local materials.
