The Alaskan Brewing Co. is Retrofitting to Go Green

As of mid-January 2013, the Alaskan Brewing Co. has been partially powered by beer after retrofitting their system in order to cut its fuel costs. The brewery is now loaded with a unique boiler that burns the company's spent grain in its special furnace, which costs $1.8 million dollars, into steam which powers the a lot of the brewery's operations (approximately 70%).

In the long-run, the eco-friendly switch is estimated to save them $450,000 per year in energy costs. The company's new system has also provided them with a sleek new slogan: "beer-powered beer."
