Portuguese-Style Villa Restaurants

Otherworlds Designs Terttulia Goa in Panjim, India

Local design studio Otherworlds designs the new Terttulia Goa, which is inspired by the traditional Goan balcão. It converts a villa originally built in the 80s in Panjim, India into a restaurant and bar. The space has a central island bar that is influenced by the balcão, which is an outdoor porch filled with seats that functions as the entrance or a classic Goan home.

The namesake references the Spanish word tertulia, which means social gathering with "literary or artistic associations." Founder of Otherworlds Arko explains to Dezeen that "The balcão is a crucial part of a Goan home as this is where one spends most of their time [...] The balcão becomes all the more important at such a time as it is built with the idea of reinforcing the kinship between the house and the neighbourhood."
