The Telegram messaging app has received a new update that will enable new capabilities regarding user location. One of the features is available through the app's contact settings and is called 'Add People Nearby.' It will allow people to browse public group chats that are near their location. Users can also 'Create a Local Group,' which enables users to start new chats. The company indicates that local discussions on the platform could include campuses to festivals and many other situations where people could benefit from local information.

The update also included other features, one of which being the ability to transfer admin status to other group members. Other additions to the Telegram messaging app include notification controls, Siri shortcuts, theme options, and icon options.
