Tarot Card Photography

Major Arcana by Giulia Pex is a Combination of Illustrations & Portraiture

The Major Arcana photo series is comprised of tarot card photography that replaces the classic illustrations with real people. Yet since the series was put together by Giulia Pex, an artist based in Milan, Italy, it is only natural that illustrations would still play a big role. She has been known to combine the two in the past.

Essentially, the tarot card photography involves carefully posed models who are the main characters in the deck. Pex then proceeds to illustrate around their portraits to flesh out the images and give them more context. She writes, "The technique of mixing photography and illustration came natural to me: it works well to express what’s in my mind."
