A collection of chairs, sofas, tables, stools and bowls by Campanas (Fernando and Humberto of Brazil) have Asian culinary influences. The duo started with favelas, overlapping pieces of fabric together making mats and bedspreads.
The idea developed into rolling fabrics of different types together like sushi rolls - lo and behold, what you get is some colourful art and function!
Implications - Artists are constantly looking for new inspiration for their creations. A common place to look is within the food we eat. Creating something like the sushi-inspired sofa is bound to get attention because of its bizarre medium (but one that is essential to life). Not only are artists looking for inspiring ideas, but consumers are as well.
