Amsterdam's 'Student Hotel' Exemplifies the Youth-Based Travel Market

— September 14, 2015 — Art & Design
The 'Student Hotel' was conceived by Charlie MacGregor and designed by '...,stat,' created based on a student's place in life -- combining fun, learning and social spaces. Stylistically, the hotel aims to feel like a home-away-from-home, while still having the convenience and safety of a hotel.

The design is themed with a university residence in mind, and with simple furniture and some vintage decor, it feels like a comfortable dorm experience. The graphic art in the Student Hotel mimics a club or bar scene more than traditional hotel artwork. Finally, intellectual-inspiring details are strewn about, like bold quotes plastered on the walls and a small movie-watching hub that invites the young community to view TED talks together.

With student-aged individuals traveling much more than they used to, the tourism industry -- accommodations, transportation and travel companies like S-Trip or Contiki Tours -- is increasingly targeting 18 to 25-year-olds with marketing.
