A series of Starbucks self-service kiosks are slated to be rolled out by the brand at select locations in South Korea and Japan as a way to help the brand work better with existing customers and tourists alike. The kiosks will provide guests with the ability to place an order in their native tongue, which will help to cut down on communication difficulties that can come with interacting with staff. The brand will install 10 kiosks in select locations in Seoul and Jeju Island with Starbucks Japan also introducing them at the same time.
A representative in Korea commented on the new Starbucks self-service kiosks saying, "The number of foreign tourists has increased, and language barriers have made communication difficult, so we developed the kiosks to address this issue. We aim to attract foreign demand in tourist areas through the kiosks. Consumers who are uncomfortable with face-to-face ordering may also prefer to use kiosks."
