The Somari Collection by LightArt Uses 3d-Printed Modular Shades

— March 9, 2026 — Art & Design
The Somari Collection by LightArt is a series of pendant lights created using additive manufacturing and plant-based materials. The collection uses ribbed shades produced through 3D printing with PLA, allowing components to be fabricated on demand rather than stored as large inventories. This production approach enables LightArt to manufacture fixtures only when specified, reducing warehouse storage and limiting material waste while keeping design and fabrication within its U.S.-based facilities.

The collection takes visual inspiration from lantern light and is available in three silhouettes: Saucer, Cylinder, and Sphere. Each pendant is offered in multiple sizes and can be specified individually or stacked into vertical or horizontal configurations up to eight feet long. A cylindrical Casper core houses integrated LED lighting with color temperatures ranging from 2700K to 4000K and a CRI of 90. Seven translucent colorways including Shiro, Halo, Sail, Clover, Rosa, Sienna, and Loom diffuse light through ribbed shades to create a soft, atmospheric glow.

Trend Themes

  1. On-demand 3d-printed Lighting — Enables just-in-time fabrication of bespoke fixtures, reducing inventory costs and enabling localized, low-volume customization of lighting products.
  2. Plant-based Material Adoption — Signals a shift toward biodegradable polymers in fixture manufacture that can lower environmental impact and create new compostable or recyclable product lines.
  3. Modular Configurable Fixtures — Supports scalable, reconfigurable lighting assemblies that can be tailored to variable spatial needs and extended through stackable components.

Industry Implications

  1. Architectural Lighting — Benefits from integrated, high-CRI LED cores and translucent modular shades that enable nuanced, energy-efficient ambient solutions for complex projects.
  2. Commercial Interior Design — Sees potential in customizable pendant systems that allow coherent aesthetic language across diverse spaces while minimizing on-site adjustments.
  3. Sustainable Manufacturing — Experiences pressure to adopt additive production with bio-based feedstocks, creating pathways to reduce waste, shorten supply chains, and certify greener products.
