DIY Wind Turbines

The Solar Flower Wind Turbine Can Be Built for as Cheaply as $15

One of the problems with sustainable technology is that the equipment that it requires is often quite expensive, but this is not the case with the Solar Flower wind turbine, which can be built for anywhere between $15-$30.

Daniel Connell developed the design for the Solar Flower based on the Lenz2 turbine and it requires some scrap metal, plus a few nuts and bolts to put together. Like all good things, assembly of the Solar Flower will take some time. As estimated by Connell, with just one person, the turbine takes about six hours to put together.

Connell also reports that the Solar Flower turbine is capable of withstanding winds of about 80 km/h, if the three vane version is built, or up to 105 km/h for the six vane version.
