The Snider House is an 1828 Regency Cottage renovated by Giannone Petricone Associates in Toronto, combining heritage restoration with a contemporary rear extension. The 540-square-metre residence underwent structural reinforcement, masonry reconstruction, and upgrades to its roof, insulation, ventilation, and windows while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Heritage Act. The project preserves the home's original centre-hall organization at the front while introducing a contrasting architectural language toward the garden. An undulating glass wall replaces the rear façade, creating a visual connection between the interior and landscape.
The renovation retains formal living and dining rooms within the historic portion of the house before transitioning into the more fluid addition. Integrated millwork conceals a pantry, coffee bar, and return-air system at the junction between the old and new structures. A sculptural staircase with powder-coated metal pickets and leather-wrapped newel posts connects the basement and upper floor, while curved plaster surfaces on the second-floor landing continue the flowing geometry established by the glazed extension.
