In a campaign to save London's Smithfield Market from being turned into residential and office complexes, The SAVE Campaign has been put in place to get the government to change this.
In order to create some massive buzz about the issue, tons of campaigners dressed up like Lady Gaga, holding signs that communicated things like: "You’d have to be Gaga to rip the heart out of Smithfield." Although the army of Gagas seems completely unrelated, since Smithfield is best known for its meat market, inspiration was drawn from Gaga's infamous meat dress. After a few retweets from Lady Gaga herself, #SaveSmithfield started trending in the UK.
A decision about the historic British landmark is set to be made in August by Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government.
