The LiDAR Saving Lives Public Safety Coalition (LSL) has revealed a new smart airbag platform called the ROADMEDIC® Airbag Deployment Satellite IoT Clearinghouse. This innovation is presented as "a first-of-its-kind, automaker-supported, end-to-end digital platform that transforms airbag deployments from software-defined vehicles (SDVs) equipped with Smart Airbags™ into real-time, actionable intelligence for Next-Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) Drone First Responders (DFRs)."
In other words, the smart airbag platform is engineered to detect when a vehicle's airbag is activated and then automatically transmit a digital alert via satellite networks directly to public safety answering points. This process is intended to occur within moments of a collision. It will generate an incident report and enable the potential deployment of aerial drones to the location to provide a visual assessment before first responders arrive on the scene.
