Mixed-Use Developments

Skamarken is a mixed-use development in Norway designed by architecture studio Snøhetta that brings residential, cultural, and public program together in a waterfront setting. The project is organized as a series of stepped volumes that follow the natural topography of the site, creating terraced outdoor spaces and visual connections to nearby water and landscape. Housing units, common areas, and amenity spaces are integrated within a continuous structure that dissolves traditional boundaries between private and public uses.

Facades are articulated with vertical rhythms and material variation to respond to solar orientation and views, with glazing positioned to maximize daylight penetration. Built-in terraces and balconies form a series of social edges that encourage interaction while providing outdoor access from living spaces. Public paths and plazas are woven through the project at ground level, linking Skamarken to adjacent streets and waterfront promenades. The development includes community facilities, mixed-income housing, and shared amenity areas, and is designed to promote connectivity and everyday use for residents and visitors alike.
