The SH*T Shoes were introduced by gut health brand Let Loose as limited-edition bathroom sandals that encourage a squat-like posture while using the toilet. The patent-pending design incorporates a seven-inch platform that raises the knees above the hips, eliminating the need for a separate footstool. Founder Alexandra Houx Grounds developed the concept after experiencing constipation and bloating, citing the seated position created by conventional toilets as a factor that can increase strain during bowel movements. The retro-inspired wedges are offered in small and large sizes and retail for $69.
The sandals are intended only for bathroom use and are not designed for walking or standing. The elevated position aims to straighten the anorectal angle, which can help relax the muscles involved in bowel movements and reduce resistance during elimination. Let Loose says the design may benefit people experiencing occasional constipation while easing pressure associated with hemorrhoids.
