Aristides Dallas Architects, an Athens and Tinos-based practice, has received the 2026 Architizer A+Award in the Unbuilt Hospitality category for Shared Ground. This project stands as a contemporary interpretation of the Greek village.
Aristides Dallas Architects reimagined the spatial intelligence of historic Greek settlements through a modern architectural language. Shared Ground investigates the underlying principles of traditional villages, focusing on gradual growth, spatial diversity, and collective character. These qualities are translated into a hospitality environment where architecture emerges from the landscape. The masterplan is organized as a dispersed settlement following the site's natural topography, with buildings positioned and rotated according to the terrain and curved circulation paths responding to existing contours. Accommodation units are grouped into three residential typologies and organized into small neighborhood clusters around shared outdoor spaces.

What Makes This Trend Stand Out
- Village-inspired Hospitality
- Contemporary resorts modeled on historic settlement patterns create openings for guest experiences that feel communal, place-based, and culturally grounded.
- Topography-led Design
- Architecture that follows natural contours highlights potential for lower-impact development strategies that make terrain a defining feature of luxury environments.
- Clustered Outdoor Living
- Small accommodation groupings around shared open spaces signal new models for hospitality layouts that balance privacy with collective social connection.
Sectors Adopting This
- Hospitality
- Resort operators can differentiate through dispersed, village-like properties that replace centralized hotel formats with immersive neighborhood-style stays.
- Architecture
- Design studios are gaining space to reinterpret vernacular planning systems through modern materials, computational layouts, and landscape-integrated forms.
- Real Estate Development
- Developers focused on destination properties may find value in masterplans that use cultural authenticity and environmental sensitivity as premium positioning tools.
