The Shanghai Jiading Public Library is designed to reflect the characteristics of the local environment, on both the interior and exterior of the building. For example, in one reading room the pillars that help to hold up the piece of architecture resemble trees found in the area.
As DesignBoom puts it, "this relationship of people, object, and space combined with the traditional courtyard elements of windows, views, and light extends the visual effect from the inside to the outside." Everything seems to flow quite seamlessly form the interior to the exterior, as each detail is meant as a reflection of this area of Shanghai.
Considering the culture of studying instilled in the Chinese culture for young people, having a pleasant library to work at is very helpful.
