Sebastião Salgado's 'Genesis' series is a long-term, on-going project that seeks to preserve and immortalize the beauty of nature. Salgado has traversed the globe in search of environments that have been unsullied by human advancement, documenting land, wildlife and human communities that live by an ancient code of conduct.

Inspired by his own profound respect for the environment, Salgado invested six years on a journey to probe, chronicle and protect the natural wonders of the world. He explains the project by saying, "Genesis is the search for the origin of the world, the one that has evolved for thousands of years before dealing with the pace of modern life."

The black and white series provides viewers with a sense of calm and tranquility. The images have the power to catapult the average city-dweller from the hustle and bustle of their modern life into a serene appreciation of nature.
