La Ermita De Lola is a beautiful sculptural shrine that is located in a prominent spot on the premises of a private Spanish garden in Las Rozas. The piece is created in memory of Lola, a daughter of the couple who commissioned the shrine and who was lost shortly after her birth.
La Ermita De Lola was envisioned in collaboration between Madrid-based architecture studio Ramos Alderete and architect Ana Isabel Santolaria. The clients wanted Lola's memory to be kept alive through a grotto for the Virgin Mary which is "a common religious archetype." The sculptural shrine, which is made out of concrete, has an irregular shape and shelters the Pregnant Virgin sculpture by artist Javier Viver in a niche of the facade.
