SASHIKO GALS x New Era MLB Uses Traditional Sashiko Stitching
References: neweracap.jp
The SASHIKO GALS x New Era MLB cap collaboration is a limited headwear project created with a Japanese artisan collective based in Otsuchi. The SASHIKO GALS x New Era MLB cap collaboration reworks classic baseball caps representing the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres. Each hat is individually decorated using sashiko, a traditional Japanese stitching technique developed more than 400 years ago to reinforce and repair garments through distinctive hand-sewn patterns.
Because every cap is hand-stitched by artisans, no two pieces are identical, turning each item into a one-of-a-kind accessory. The project also commemorates the 15th anniversary of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake. The capsule is scheduled to release through New Era beginning March 18 as a highly limited edition drop.
