Indoor Guidance Firefighter Devices

This Safety System is Powered by GPS Technology

GPS technology is a mainstay on city streets but doesn't work reliably indoors, so this safety system for firefighters is being developed to help keep first responders safer when heading into a burning building.

The device is being developed at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology by a team of researchers led by Nikolai Kronenwett as well as retired professor Gert Trommer. The unit would be capable of being worn on the user's boot and would track their last known location via GPS before using a an accelerometer and gyroscope to keep them properly oriented as they traverse dangerous environments.

The GPS firefighter safety system could dramatically aid first responders by guiding them out of dangerous scenarios in a timely manner.
