The Ryan McGinness Blacklight Nudie Cards are the newest item in the "Women: The Blacklight Series," which premiered this past December in Miami at famed strip club Madonna. The second installment premiered at The Standard New York in March, and this third installment was produced exclusively for The Standard Los Angeles. The blacklight cards are a deck of 52 standard-sized cards printed in florescent ink. They play on traditional nudie cards, which date back to the 16th century in India with Kama Sutra depictions.
“My use of fluorescent paint under the blacklight color spectrum is a strategy to force a singular time/space experience with the work,” says McGinness. “That is to say, the work must be experienced in person, and cannot be fully appreciated through reproductions via jpgs or printed catalog pages.”
The inexpensive Blacklight Nudie Cards are miniature pieces of Ryan's larger works and are sold exclusively at all The Standard Shops.
