SpaceX will launch a rocket rideshare program for small size satellites. This would enable third-party companies to enter an agreement to launch a satellite on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The program is called the SmallSat Rideshare Program. Companies can access the rocket rideshare program for an approximate cost of $2.25 million for a satellite weighing in at under 330 pounds. Heavier satellites, which weigh up to 660 pounds, will cost $4.5 million.
The first SpaceX rideshare missions will be scheduled for November of 2020 and March of 2021.
Rocket rideshares are becoming a more common practice as satellite technology continues to shrink in size. This makes satellites easier to put into orbit and cheaper for companies to purchase.
