The United Objects furniture collection expands to include the RM I Table, designed by Joseph Smolenicky. The Zurich-based architect created a perplexing table made out of square aluminum tubes. It is configured to reveal how designers can make complex objects with intricate geometric shapes from simple materials.
The RM I table boasts exceptional details. Informed by the structure of the square tube, the table features staggered edges. The table's legs act as a vertical continuity of the tabletop's horizontal tubular structure, making for a coherent piece. There is space for people to sit comfortably around the table. Rhombus in shape, the piece has a unique form rather than the typical rectangular table to promote communication between those who sit at the table.
