Mamoru Kanai's ongoing series, 'Riding Pop,' depicts the Tokyo Instagrammer as he rides his bike through the city. Kanai performs all sorts of impressive tricks in front of the bustling metropolis: beautiful murals, bridges and trains.
Kanai rides a mamachari, a generic type of bike in Japan, often decked with a basket or child seat. He explains that using a common bike, instead of a technical model, adds a level of irony to each colorful composition.
Each image possesses a cheerful, effervescent spirit. Even if you can't perform the tricks that Kanai can, with incredible skill and discipline, the series will surely remind you of the freedom and joy of riding a bike. In fact, you can almost feel the movement of the wind through your hair as you gaze at these light-hearted images.
