Honda QuantumScape Partnership Advances Solid-State Battery

Honda QuantumScape partnership focuses on developing solid-state battery technology and manufacturing processes for future electric vehicles. Announced in June 2026, the agreement brings together Honda and the California-based battery developer to advance lithium-metal solid-state batteries with higher energy density, faster charging capabilities and improved safety. The collaboration follows QuantumScape's previous manufacturing agreement with Volkswagen's battery company, PowerCo SE, as the company expands development of its solid-state platform.

Solid-state batteries replace the liquid electrolytes used in conventional lithium-ion cells with solid materials, enabling the use of lithium metal and increasing energy density. QuantumScape's anode-free cell architecture forms the anode during the first charge, while the solid electrolyte reduces leakage risks and improves thermal stability. Honda has indicated the technology could enable charging to 80–90% capacity within minutes, with higher driving range than current battery systems.
