Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton recently debuted her first collection at JC Penny stores across the US. As the first plus-sized contestant to win the fashion design competition, Tipton's new collection represents a step towards making plus-size clothing more widely accessible for women.
Tipton's new collection is called 'Ashley Nell Tipton for Boutique+' and it consists of 19 pieces that have been exclusively designed for plus-sized women. With sizes running up to 30W/5X, the new collection provides plus-size shoppers with an impressive range of fashion-forward options. The collection is also unique in that it eschews antiquated guidelines about plus-size dressing with stylish garments such as bodycon dresses, horizontal strips and ornate prints. As Tipton explains, "I wanted to create something that went against all the rules for plus-size [women], all the things that people tell us to stay away from."
