Pretty Vacant by Rietveld Landscape is Elaborately Toy-Like

To some, the Pretty Vacant art installation will look like a very large and very elaborate divider. To others, it will resemble a classic toy set. Whatever the case may be, it is undeniable that the Pretty Vacant installation is impressive on various levels.

Designed by Rietveld Landscape at the behest of Utrecht’s Centraal Museum, the Pretty Vacant art installation not only fulfills the imaginations of those who stumble upon its blue vastness, it also addresses two important directives. First of all, it refers to the Vacant NL, an expansive model city the studio created for the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2010. Secondly, the Pretty Vacant installation takes over one of the site’s own empty areas.
