Potter Jim Whalen Creates One-of-a-Kind Ceramic Art

— March 6, 2010 — Art & Design
Potter Jim Whalen creates stunningly beautiful distinctive ceramic pots, lidded jars and vases from his North Carolina studio.

The wheel-thrown pieces are burnished and coated with a thin layer of terra sigillata before they are bisque fired. After the bisque firing, patterns are hand-applied to the pieces using wax resist. The traditionally constructed pieces are pit fired before being cleaned and readied for the marketplace.

Whalen’s award-winning pottery is sold in fine galleries across the United States.
