Inclusive Autism-Focused Entertainment Programs

PortAventura World Advances Accessibility

PortAventura World has significantly advanced its cognitive accessibility initiatives through two notable programs that are designed to create a more inclusive experience for visitors with autism spectrum disorder. These efforts form part of a broader accessibility strategy that includes hearing loop installations, adapted virtual reality experiences, and specialized programs for families facing serious illnesses through the PortAventura Dreams Village initiative.

The theme park has introduced Julia, Sesame Street's pioneering autistic character, to its SésamoAventura area. Julia takes part in a special interactive performance, marking the character's first European appearance outside television. This creative integration provides neurodivergent children with positive representation while educating all visitors about different communication styles through engaging entertainment.

Complementing this character introduction, PortAventura World has implemented a comprehensive pictogram-based signage system. Developed in partnership with autism organizations Todos en Azul and ARASAAC, this feature offers visual communication tools to help navigate the park environment.
