Pope Francis Leica M-A No.5000000 Set Auctions for Charity

The Pope Francis Leica M-A No.5000000 set auctions for charity as a one-of-a-kind ensemble featuring a silver-chrome Leica M-A body paired with the Noctilux-M 50 mm f/1.2 lens. Both pieces bear the milestone serial number 5,000,000 and were gifted by Leica AG in 2024. The set is deeply personalized with papal engravings, including the Keys of Peter, the motto “Miserando atque eligendo,” and the Vatican City coat of arms.

Pre-bidding opens October 22 ahead of the Leitz Photographica Auction 47 in Vienna on November 22. Starting bid is €30,000 with an estimated hammer range of €60,000 to €70,000. All proceeds will go to the personal charity institution of Pope Francis, and there is no buyer’s premium. The presentation box and matching elements underscore its ceremonial nature. With its rarity and symbolism, the lot appeals both to collectors and to those moved by meaningful craftsmanship.
