After working on environmental projects in the Amazon in Colombia, industrial designer Alvaro Catalán de Ocón started the PET Recycled Plastic Lamp Shade project.

Salvaging all of the discarded PET bottles that litter the Amazon, the project reworks them into useful and decorative lamp shades that are sold and enjoyed. Leaving the tops of the bottles intact and using a special weaving technique on the rest, the lamps combine modern industrial elements as well as traditional design elements. The transformation of the plastic from bottles to lamp shades gives it new life and purpose, changing it from disposable trash to fixtures that will last for a long time.

The PET Recycled Plastic Lamp Shade collection made its debut at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2013.
