As the worlds largest metal music festival, Wacken Open Air Festival has built an underground pipeline for draft beer.
Last year the festival organizers found that its 75,000 attendees consumed an average of 5.1 liters of beer per person over the course of the event. Transporting the beer needed to keep its crowd hydrated throughout the festival proved to be nearly impossible last year. This necessitated an alternative libation logistics system. It's solution was to dig an underground pipeline for draft beer. The pipeline will run 80cm underground for a length of four miles. Not only will the pipeline deliver six pints of beer in six seconds, but the underground pipeline will keep the festival's liquid gold cold.
This year, Wacken festival-goers can expect acts such as Megadeath, Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson to perform.
