Affordable TV streaming plans are finally becoming a reality thanks to the Philo TV streaming service. While Philo contains the same technology as Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, DirecTV Now or YouTube TV, it is very different in what it offers. Instead of trying to replace a full cable subscription, Philo TV offers a smaller collection of channels, resulting in a lower monthly subscription cost. While there are some trade-offs in this smaller collection, this new service does strip away some bloated material and focuses on sought-after cable channels.
In addition to live and on-demand content, Philo will also offer free cloud DVR, which usually comes as a paid service from many other providers. There is no cap on recorded material, though recordings will only remain for 30 days. Philo TV streaming is currently available on Roku TV, a web browser and on mobile devices.
