The Phenocart is an innovative and high-tech device that makes it possible to perform the task of phenotyping -- studying the physical parameters of a plant to ascertain its health -- at a more accurate level.

Developed by scientists at Kansas State University, the Phenocart is a hand-held cart-shaped device is designed to be pushed around crops by farmers. While it's being rolled around, it scans the plants and automatically harnesses key data. Its sensors measure everything from leaf temperature to the color characteristics of the plants, with sensors capable of being swapped out depending on which characteristics farmers are most interested in measuring.
