Dating apps may be popular when it comes to app store downloads, but you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't have a few choice words about the notoriously vapid platforms, so 'Personals' is working to make online dating a little more interesting -- at least for the queer community. The in-development site is based on the personals section of a lesbian magazine from the 80s and 90s called 'On Our Backs', and it thus prioritizes wit while eliminating pictures altogether.

'Personals' is all about language. As a site for the queer community, it recognizes that language is a sort of code people in the community uses to identify themselves to one another. That said, the descriptions will be limited to 45 words, so terse descriptions are essential.
