British industrial designer Tom Price’s bold and vibrant design for the PE Stripe Meltdown Chair is both memorable and distinctive. The artful furniture piece is modern with atypical shapes and unconventional materials.
The designer created a seat shape out of heated metal and added colorful woven rug pieces to produce texture and detail. The plastic rug fragments complement the chair’s solid stainless steel framing, and are shaped into the mould of the seat. The quirky piece is unlike any other with a one-of-a-kind aesthetic.
Its reveal at Industry Gallery during Design Miami 2011 brought this prototype to life, encouraging the designer to construct more custom pieces for the series. The vibrant piece employs modern design ideals. A sleek and simple design is paired with bright colors and visually interesting textures. This chair is not only a work of art, but is also a fully functional and comfortable furniture piece.
